Adult Check started the AVS craze years ago. The idea was simple: allow webmasters a way to protect their sites from underage kids being able to view gay porn. To do this, they required a valid credit card to enter. Over the years other avses popped up all the time. That is ok, what is not ok is how webmasters abused this.

It goes like this: Surfer has a credit card. They used it to get AVS membership. They will use it again. So, webmasters figured once they are in my site then I can just hit them with banner after banner and make them buy something. Quality? Who cares? I just want them to pull the credit card out again!
